It looks like “Gangnam Style” might be sticking around. The song, by Korean rapper Psy, has hit number one on the iTunes charts on Monday for the first time, and has nearly 200 million hits on YouTube. The iTunes accomplishment also makes Psy the first Korean artist to reach number one on the online music chart. “Gangnam Style” has also topped the Billboard Social 50 for three weeks in a row. Psy has been making his rounds on television, appearing on NBC’s “Today” show, “Saturday Night Live” and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in recent days.
In a recent interview with “MTV News,” Psy said he wanted his video for “Gangnam Style” to be “as ridiculous as possible.” He says that many of the crazy scenes in the video were actually improvised.
The video was shot over two days in July and became an online sensation, starting the “dress classy and dance cheesy” phenomenon. Psy says the child dancer in the video was actually a contestant on “Korea’s Got Talent.”
