The president of a human rights group is downplaying a tabloid report that appears to put the Kardashians in the midst of a sweatshop scandal. “Star Magazine” quoted Charles Kernaghan as saying the reality TV family was “in bed with some pretty bad people” in reference to the factories the Kardashians use to make clothes and shoes for their fashion line. Now, Kernaghan says his quotes were taken out of context. He tells TMZ.com while child labor practices in many factories are appalling, he has no specific proof that the factories the Kardashians use are in violation of any labor standards or human rights. He says his organization, the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights, is investigating the factories the Kardashians use but so far has not uncovered any evidence of abuse.
Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner also tells TMZ that the factories they use are “strictly policed” and are not in violation of any labor laws. “Star Magazine” has yet to respond to the rebuttals to its published claims about the Kardashians.
