Kris Humphries isn’t worried about fending off a defamation lawsuit from Jonathan Cheban .According to a source close to the NBA free agent, Humphries doesn’t expect the high-profile publicist to make good on his threats because he doesn’t have sufficient legal grounds to sue.Earlier this month, RadarOnline reported that Cheban was considering filing a $5 million defamation suit against Humphries for calling him “gay” in an upcoming episode of “Kourtney & Kim Take New York.”“The bottom line is Jonathan is not gay,” Cheban’s friend told RadarOnline. But our source says Humphries doubts the suit will ever materialize because the basketball player was told to make the remark on the “scripted” reality show.“There’s nothing he can sue him for other than following directions from the show’s producers,” says the source. The source also notes that Cheban, who is one of Kim Kardashian ’s BFFs, has not threatened the show’s producers with a similar suit.Humphries was friendly with Cheban, too, before Kardashian filed for divorce on Oct. 31 after just 72 days of marriage. But since the NBA player’s marriage hit the skids, tensions have escalated. The publicist was flour-bombed by a mystery attacker outside Kardashian’s boutique store, DASH, in Soho this past weekendThe attacker reportedly shouted “This is for Kris Humphries” as he chucked flour in Cheban’s direction, but Humphries’ representatives say the still-at-large culprit has “absolutely no affiliations with Kris.”“He would never condone such hateful and unacceptable behavior like that — to anyone, in any situation,” a spokesman for Humphries said in a released statement.Cheban isn’t the only one painting Humphries as the bad guy these days. The source says that Humphries was unfairly blamed for escalating an argument that occurred between him and Kim on Sunday’s episode of “Kourtney and Kim” on E!The show, which has predictably cast Humphries as the villain, zeroed in on comments he made regarding Kardashian’s future celebrity status while they discussed the prospects of having children.Humphries told Kardashian “no one will probably care about you, let’s be honest” by the time the couple had kids, and suggested his wife “maybe cut out” some of her work-related projects to make room for “family” if she was serious about having children. While Kardashian appeared to be appalled by the remarks, our source points that Humphries wasn’t saying his bride had to “quit her life” and never wavered in his support of his wife.“He was never going to be mad that she wanted to wait, as she wasn’t ready to have kids in the first place,” says the source.Cheban and a rep for E! did not respond for comment by deadline.
