Even though Miley Cyrus didn’t go to jail, check into rehab or become a teen mom last year, the controversial pop star has been voted the worst celebrity influence of 2010.
Voted by the very people who made her a megastar, the 18-year-old took in a whopping 58% of the 99,000 votes in the poll for AOL’s JSYK.com (Just So You Know) website, which has a target audience of 9-15 year olds.
This is the second year in a row that Cyrus has taken home the undesirable honor. In 2009, the pop star’s antics pushed Britney Spears and rapper Kanye West into second and third places, respectively, in the poll’s same category.
This year, Cyrus beat out frequent rehabber and jail bird Lindsay Lohan, volatile “Teen Mom” Amber Portwood and punch-happy Disney star Demi Lovato. Rapper Kanye West and “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford were also in the running.
Though no reasons were given for Cyrus’ low ranking, the former “Hannah Montana” star had quite the news-making year.
Just weeks after she was caught on video smoking Salvia from a bong in December, Cyrus was photographed lifting her shirt almost to her chest in a series of scandalous photos taken at a gay club.
Glimpses of her risqué lifestyle also came out earlier in the year. In May, she was criticized after a video showed the then 16-year-old “dirty dancing” at a wrap party for “The Last Song” with Adam Shankman, the film’s much-older producer.
Cyrus’ fashion choices also caused much controversy in 2010, with the singer choosing to wear lingerie-like outfits during a number of concerts and writhing around in a bed while barely dressed for her “Who Owns My Heart?” music video, drawing the ire of the Parents Television Council.
All this follows Cyrus’ eyebrow-raising antics from 2009, which involved her dating a 20-year-old model, making “slant eyes” in an informal snapshot criticized as mocking Asians, and being accused of pole-dancing on a teen awards show.
