It wouldn’t be a Seth Rogen movie these days if he didn’t push the limits in his work. In an interview with Howard Stern, Rogen expressed that one of his challenges for the movie was dealing with The MPAA.
The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) are the people responsible for decided if a movie gets a G rating up to an NC-17 rating. Rogen’s new film, the adult animation comedy, Sausage Party is one of those that had some stipulations to keep the Sausage Party from being rated NC-17.
Rogen told Howard Stern “There is a very sexually charged scene in the film, There’s a pita bread with a scrotum. That was something we kind of played with was, like, how far can we push this stuff?” Rogen also told Stern that when they first submitted the film to the MPAA “We at first got an NC-17 rating back,” Rogen said. “Our fear was that it would then create this like big negotiation process where we ultimately had to butcher the fucking thing, you know?”
Luckily that wasn’t the case. Rogen and his team just had to reach one stipulation for their R-rating. They had to shave. Not the movie time limit, but the private parts of a pita bread. “There’s a pita bread and you see his ballsack in the end of the orgy and it had hair on it,” Rogen laughingly told Stern.
