Ed Sheeran just got hit with a $20 million lawsuit over his hit song “Photograph”… because, as it turns out, it might not have been his song to begin with.
Songwriters Martin Harrington and Thomas Leonard claim “Photograph” has a strikingly similar structure to their song, “Amazing,” which was written in 2009.
The pair say that Sheeran’s ballad has the same musical composition to their track, which was released by 2010 X Factor winner Matt Cardle.
In documents, that include musical note comparison and chord breakdowns of the two songs, the pair claim the chorus of “Photograph” shares 39 identical notes with their track.
They’ve also hired the same lawyer that Marvin Gaye’s family used in their copyright lawsuit against Pharrell and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and WON.
So… exactly HOW SIMILAR are these two songs? Well, we have to admit—-VERY.
Listen for yourself:
Yeah, Ed, you’re pretty much screwed…
