Nick Carter might have apologized for his bar fight and subsequent arrest, but his legal troubles aren’t over.

The bouncer whom the Backstreet Boys member fought is suing the singer for allegedly “striking and choking” him, according to court documents obtained by E! News. Skylar Carden alleges that after he requested Carter to leave the Hog’s Breath Saloon multiple times as a result of his behavior, Carter refused and “became aggressive,” turning to “physical force” to regain entry into the Key West, Florida, bar.

“Nick Carter has shown the world that he is nothing more than a backstreet thug. Even though Nick Carter is a celebrity, he is no different from anyone else when it comes to respecting the rights of others,” says Mark G. DiCowden, Carden’s attorney, in a press release. “Mr. Carden was just doing his job to maintain order and didn’t deserve to be attacked—getting beaten up by patrons is not part of his job description.”

He adds, “Carter’s backhanded apology in the form of a tweet was a crude attempt to control public relations and did nothing to address his remorse for the harm he caused Carden. No amount of fame or fortune justifies Carter’s shameful and outrageous conduct. To send him that message and deter his misbehavior in the future, we will seek punitive damages against him as allowed by Florida law.”

The former Dancing With the Stars contestant was arrested and released from Monroe County Detention Center on a $1,500 bond about 10 days ago after being charged with misdemeanor battery. Carter pleaded not guilty and then released anapology on Twitter.

“I am human and at times it can be a struggle to balance a healthy lifestyle,” Carter tweeted a few days after his release. “I’m not perfect and for that I am sorry.”

“When we fall we have to get up and keep on walking,” he added. “I hope you stay by my side and continue to walk with me.”

His arrest came two months after he and his wife, Lauren Kitt, announced they are expecting their first child together, a baby boy.
