In a report with The Huffington Post, Hispanic Groups are urging NBC to dump Trump out of the ‘SNL’ segment, which is scheduled to be on the air on Nov. 7. The Hispanic group had earlier sent a letter to NBC Universal CEO Stephen Burke and “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels, the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda praising the company for parting ways with Trump over his racist remarks about Hispanic immigrants.
The report said that Trump still has not apologized for the ‘bigoted remarks’ where he described Mexican immigrants as thieves, murderers and even rapists. The letter addressed to NBC’s CEO even said that they were “flabbergasted” on the network’s decision to put Trump on the air on Nov. 7.
“We are appalled that you would enable Trump’s hateful speech for nothing (more) than a ratings ploy and ask that you rescind the SNL invitation,” said the letter.
NBC did not give an immediate comment on the letter which was publicly released on Thursday.
Trump earlier said that “he was doing very well with Hispanics” as per the recent poll so he did not need to respond to criticism.
According to Deadline, Felix Sanchez who is the chairman of the Hispanic Group said that the stint on “Saturday Night Live” will make Trump a comedian in the eyes of many, making his “racist remarks” somewhat humorous in nature. Sanchez also said that inviting Trump on the air was “a slap on the face” for Latinos everywhere.
Deadline also said that the Hispanic coalition has collected over 117,000 online signatures on the online activist platform, Moveon.org calling for Trump to be removed from the ‘SNL’ segment on Nov. 7. The petition continues to grow in numbers by the day, the report said.
