If you’d been holding out for Christian Bale to take the big $50 million paycheck to reprise his role as Batman for the Man of Steel Sequel, sorry but I’m about to kill all your little bat-dreams.
Ben Affleck is the new Batman.
Warner Bros. announced late yesterday that Affleck will play Batman (and his alter ego Bruce Wayne) in the upcoming sequel to this summer’s Man of Steel, to be directed by Zack Snyder. He will star opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman/Clark Kent, as well as Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Lawrence Fishburne (Perry White), and Diane Lane (Martha Kent).
The movie does not yet have an official title, but has been informally referred to as Batman vs. Superman and has an official release date: July 17, 2015.
Last time he played a superhero, it was “Daredevil” in 2003. But even though it made $179 million worldwide, it was seen as a disappointment. So…lets hope this one goes a bit better, or that Henry Cavill and his deliciousness manages to save the movie with his hotness.
Regardless of if you think it’s a great decision or the worst casting decision ever, it seems that enough people are ticked off about his selection that a worldwide trending topic erupted on Twitter. It’s called #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck and some of the tweets feature the most amazingly hilarious photos of who/what people think would make a better Batman…like these gems:
