Like many great rappers, Nas has wrote a few inspirational songs for young adults throughout his career, however, Nas is one of very few artists to be affiliated with Harvard University.

The 39 year old Queensbridge rapper is being rewarded by the Ivy League University with the “Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship” at its W.E.B Du Bois Institute. The fellowship program will be a joint venture with Harvard’s Hip-Hop Archive and is expected to expand upon the institute’s earlier work.

The Hip-Hop Archive was established in 2002 at Harvard and supports growing research in hip-hop. Nas’ fellowship program will assist students who excel in the arts in connection with hip-hop. Recipients will be selected by members of Harvard.

Nas is not the first rapper to have worked with the Ivy League’s Hip-Hop Archive program. Just last year, 9th Wonder worked closely with the program and documented different aspects of the research project.

“In my roller coaster of a life, I’ve endured good and bad for sure, and I’ve truly been blessed to have achieved so much through art in my short life thus far; but I am immensely over-the-top excited about the Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship at Harvard.” -Nas

How do you feel about Nas’ Harvard achievement? What other artists do you think the Hip-Hop Archive should reach out to?
