Rihanna is all over the radio. But it’s always interesting to hear about the songs she never recorded and ended up in the hands of other artists.
Below you’ll see some of the prominent songs Riri coulda, shoulda, woulda…but didn’t.
Come & Get It Selena Gomez
The Artist Who Eventually Recorded It: Selena Gomez
Why Rihanna Should Have Kept It For Herself: When you listen to the lyrics on this song, they just sound like Rihanna lyrics. Plus, Justin Bieber’s boo has enjoyed a ton of success on the charts with this song. It’s gone as high as No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s sold more than a million copies. And it’s doing pretty well in other countries as well. So it’s funny to think that this almost appeared on Rih-Rih’s 2011 album, Talk That Talk, but for whatever reason didn’t make the final cut.
The Song: “We Are Young” (produced by Jeff Bhasker)
The Artist Who Eventually Recorded It: fun. (featuring Janelle Monae)
Why Rihanna Should Have Kept It For Herself: Rihanna couldn’t keep this one for herself. Fun. was smart enough to hang onto it. But they originally tried to get Rih-Rih to sing on it with them before settling for their second choice Janelle Monae. “We were shooting for the stars on everything and she was kind of a muse,” Bhasker said earlier this year. “Someone tried to reach out and I know she heard the song and liked it. But I think some wires just got crossed.”
The Song: “We Can’t Stop” (produced by Mike WiLL Made It)
The Artist Who Eventually Recorded It: Miley Cyrus
Why Rihanna Should Have Kept It For Herself: With Rih Rih climbing the charts with the Mike WiLL Made It-produced “Pour It Up,” this Mike WiLL track would have been the perfect follow-up to it. People are clearly digging Mike WiLL’s sound right now. But unfortunately, Rihanna heard the beat for “Pour It Up” first and didn’t get around to hearing the one for “We Can’t Stop.” If she had, we’re betting she would have snatched it up. –
