A new interactive karaoke videogame is breaking new ground by having users compete against each other online.  The game, entitled, “Def Jam Rapstar,” features jailed rapper Lil Wayne and other hip-hop stars.  Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, is currently serving a sentence in New York on a gun possession charge.  The game’s developers say they hope to take the hip-hop genre a step further by linking it to a social networking website in which gamers face-off with their karaoke recordings of hip-hop songs.  The game, being released this week on Microsoft XBox, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii, comes loaded with more than 40 old and new hip-hop classics.  In classic karaoke style, the user picks a song to rhyme over, matching the words and pitch as the music video flashes in the background.  The effort can be recorded on video, edited and uploaded to the game’s website.  Users then compete for votes to determine whose filmed rendition of a particular song is best.
