Kiss frontman Paul Stanley has bitten back at Steven Tyler, saying the Aerosmith singer needs a “reality check” after calling the glam icons a comic-book band.

Last week Tyler told a radio interviewer that he’d “hated” Kiss since the time the bands toured together and one of Aerosmith’s roadies wound up in a knife fight with the other outfit’s crew.

“Sometimes I get offended,” said Tyler. “They’ve got a couple of hits but they’re more comic book. I hear that and I go, ‘Yeah, that’s alright – do they really mean it? What’s this all about?”

But he added that after the violent altercation he’d “gotten to know Gene and Paul, and they’re beautiful people.”

Now Stanley, talking to the Rockline radio show, has responded to the comments.

“Maybe Steven’s feeling a bit full of himself because he has an album coming out,” the Kiss frontman says. “When their album comes out, let’s put it with ours and let the music do the talking.”

Discussing the bands’ 2003 double-header tour he reports: “Steven insisted they close the show. I didn’t care because one way or the other you have to come up onstage. He had a chip on his shoulder back then.”

Stanley says he remembers “looking down his nose a bit at Kiss. Seeing him come onstage to an underwhelmed audience and people walking out.” READ MORE
