Honey Magazine: So, you studied acting at Howard University. Is that when acting began for you?
Lance Gross: I always knew I wanted to do it. Ever since I was a kid I was always fascinated with how actors could bring characters to life and how actors play different characters. I was always intrigued by Jack Nicholson and Sean Penn and Denzel Washington, people like that, but I grew up as a very shy kid, so I had to break out of that shyness. It really didn’t happen for me until college. So that was definitely when I made the decision that this is something I do want to pursue.

Tyler Perry discovered you in an acting class, right?
Yeah, yeah. I was making a career out of commercials and music videos and I was taking as many classes as I could. And one night I was at the Ivana Chubbuck Studio and Tyler Perry happened to come in to watch the class. He saw me perform and he thought I was talented, and he offered me a job on House of Payne.

What was it like working on the movie, Our Family Wedding?
It was great. It was real exciting and new for me working with an Oscar winner [Forest Whitaker] and America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia. It was just a good opportunity for me, and I actually miss working on the project. That’s how much fun we had together.

Every day was something new. We have tons of memories from that set. I mean, working with people like Charlie Murphy, who kept everybody laughing constantly. I’m sure the blooper reel is going to be amazing because we have so much stuff that didn’t make the movie that was priceless, but it was great working with everybody. I definitely left that production with a lot of friendships.

Kendra Baskett admits in the new issue of Us Weekly that she struggled to accept her new body weeks after the Dec. 11 birth of Hank IV, her son with husband Hank Baskett.

“I had my friends over, and it was bad timing,” Kendra, 24, tells Us. “They were really hot and had really nice bodies,” she says of her visitors, which included former Girls Next Door costar Holly Madison and Playboy model Tiffany Fallon.

“I was just hoping Hank didn’t look at them! Having a different body was such a culture shock. I’m so used to being hot and fit.” Although “it wasn’t that extreme,” the reality star says, “I did go through some depression.”

The one-time centerfold adds that her body confidence remains shaky. “I love my legs, and I love my butt, but everything else I hate.”

Everything including her breasts, she says, which “went from a 34C to an E.”

“Now that they’re going down, they’re a little bigger than I want,” she says. “I want to even out my body a little.”

Good questions, and while the scientific and psychological consensus tends to skew toward encouraging later adoption of gadgetry (12 years old is a common figure for My First Cell Phone), parents are decidedly mixed.

To wit, Retrevo just released new research on this topic based on a survey of 1,000 people (which seems to include both parents and the childless). Their results are interesting (and I am posting the results verbatim below):

A Child’s First Cell Phone
- 5% of people think kids under 9 should have their own cell phones
- 28% of people think kids should have their own cell phone between the ages of 9 & 12
- 61% of people think kids should be between age 13 & 18 for a phone
- 6% of people thing kids should wait until they’re 18 to get a cell phone

A Child’s First Computer
- 31% of people think that kids should have their first computer by the age of 9
- 35% of people think that kids should have their first computer between the ages of 9 & 12
- 30% of people think that kids should have their first computer between the ages of 13 & 18
- 4% of people think parents should wait until the kids are over 18

A Child’s First TV
- 27% of people think kids should have their own TV by the age of 9
- 20% of people think kids should have their own TV between the ages of 9 & 12
- 30% of people think kids should have their own TV between the ages of 13 & 18
- 23% of people think kids should be over 18 before having their own TV

Pretty strong consensus that around 13 is a good starting point for the phone discussion, while TVs and computers find extremely mixed results. I’m still looking for the answers myself. My seven-year-old daughter already has a computer (with heavy lockdown on what it can do), but she’s years away from getting a cell phone. A TV in her room? Unlikely, but she can watch videos on her laptop in a pinch. It’s actually never come up in discussion.

In your lifetime, you’ll spend about $13,000 dollars on makeup. Yes, you read that right. Between the lip glosses, eyeliners, and creams, your purchases will amount to thousands of dollars spent on beauty products. But when you think about it, the price totally makes sense. After all, you should be throwing out your makeup on a regular basis given its shelf life, and most women tend to buy small beauty items on impulse. What’s one more gloss that only costs $3, right? (Um…) Add that to your other random purchases, plus the routine restocking of concealer, moisturizer, and foundation, and there’s the 13 grand.

Even more interesting is the statistic that women spend 20 minutes a day on their makeup, which equates to 330 days in a lifetime. At least now you know where all your hard-earned dollars and free time are going.

In a lawsuit filed yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court, Pacers owner Herb Simon and his Thai supermodel wife, Bui, are accused of firing Claudia Leite after she told her bosses she became pregnant last month.

In the suit, Leite claims the family “feared” that she would want to take a “brief or limited medical leave of absence” around the time the baby was due — and according to Leite, that wasn’t gonna cut it.

But the nanny isn’t going after the Simons alone. The family’s former driver is also suing the couple, claiming they kicked him to the curb when the guy became “disabled with severe infections.”
