Justin Bieber, Adele Among Billboard Music Award Winners
Justin Bieber was one of the many busy pop stars at last night’s Billboard Music Awards. The singer took the stage not only to perform his new single “Boyfriend,” but also to accept the award for Top Social Artist. Justin thanked everyone who helped him get to where is today, including his mentor Usher.
Katy Perry was also frequently out of her seat last night. She was given the Spotlight Award for matching Michael Jackson’s record of five number one songs from a single album, and also performed her new single “Wide Awake.” Other big winners this year included LMFAO, who picked up trophies for Top Hot 100 Song for “Party Rock Anthem” and Top Duo or Group. Top-nominee Adele also has a plenty of new awards to add to her collection, although she wasn’t at the ceremony to pick them up. She won Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Pop Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album for “21,” just to name a few.
The 2012 Billboard Music Awards also included several tributes this year. Natasha Bedingfield sang “Last Dance” in honor of Donna Summer, while Jordin Sparks and John Legend paid tribute to Whitney Houston, along with the late singer’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. Hosts Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell also asked for a moment of silence for Bee Gees co-founder Robin Gibb, whose death was announced only hours before the ceremony began. The Billboard Music Awards were broadcast live on ABC from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
