There will be a sequel to “The Avengers.” The Walt Disney Company announced Tuesday that a follow up to its record-setting blockbuster is in the works, although a time frame for the film’s arrival still has yet to be determined. The statement marked the first official announcement of an “Avengers” sequel even as signs already appeared to point to “go” after the movie’s blockbuster opening last weekend. “The Avengers” opened to a record 207-point-four-million-dollars in the U.S. and Canada to become the biggest weekend opening ever for a film in North America.
The superhero action adventure is the first collaboration between Disney and Marvel Studios. The companies will join forces again for three more films in the Marvel superhero universe. A third “Iron Man” is due out next May, while a “Thor” sequel is set for November of next year. Another “Captain America” film is also on schedule for release in April of 2014.
