Lady Gaga has turned the Twitterverse on its ear with a controversial tweet that says “don’t eat.” Critics say the pop star’s recent Twitter post is a step backwards in the movement to reverse unhealthy habits that lead to eating disorders. In the message posted on April 10th, the singer said she had just completed two rigorous spin exercise classes and was eating a salad while “dreaming of a cheeseburger.” She capped her message with the Twitter hashtag that read, #PopSingersDontEat.” Many took it to mean she was encouraging fans to avoid eating in order to get thin. Some also noted its contradiction to Gaga’s recent calls for people to stop obsessing about weight.
The singer has admitted to suffering from bulimia in the past. She told a conference in Los Angeles this year that it was time to get over the dieting wars. Gaga has yet to address her controversial tweet.
