Kelly Clarkson is returning to the VH1 stage this year as a two-time “diva.”  The pop star will take part in the network’s “VH1 Divas” concert in December, something she also did back in 2009.  This time around, Kelly will be joined by Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott, Jessie J and Florence and the Machine in a celebration of soul music. 

The divas are expected to perform their own hits as well as cover songs as they pay tribute to a few prominent birthplaces of the genre, including Chicago, Detroit, Memphis, Philadelphia and London.  And while they might not be traditional divas, Philly natives Questlove and the Roots will lend a hand as the concert’s official house band.

More information about additional performers and presenters at “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” is expected in the coming weeks.  The show is scheduled to take place December 19th at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom and will air at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on VH1.
