Terrell Owens, who is hoping to make an NFL comeback this season, was hospitalized Thursday, according to a report that first broke on TMZ yesterday.
Last Thursday, an unidentified person called 911 to report a medical emergency at a Los Angeles apartment where Owens had been staying. Police reportedly were sent to the complex as well. Owens was released and his representatives did not return calls to comment.
With so few details, it is dangerous to speculate on the cause of Owens’ hospitalization — however, Owens was hospitalized in 2006 for an alleged suicide attempt via pain pill overdose. Owens publicly denied the claim, stating that he merely suffered a bad reaction to painkillers; however, police reports seem to back up the suicide claim. TMZ is speculating that this recent hospitalization was due to similar circumstances.
Owens, 37, underwent surgery this summer to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and is a free agent. He recently underwent stem-cell treatment in South Korea and said that he could be playing “in a month or less.”
“I’m not gonna waste your time, so I wouldn’t expect you to waste my time,” Owens told ESPN in an interview a few days ago. “When I step on the field, you know what you gonna get.”
Here’s hoping that this story isn’t as serious as it sounds. Regardless of your opinion on the polarizing T.O., there’s no doubt he adds some entertainment to the field on gameday. Send a little love his way so someday soon he can get back to doing what he loves and doing those crazy touchdown celebrations that he’s so known for and we can all go back to gettin’ our popcorn ready!
