Kanye West shopping in West Village

Kanye West took to Twitter this morning to clear up some of the controversial lyrics from The Life Of Pablo.

As he debuted the songs at his Yeezy Season 3 show at MSG on Wednesday, people were shocked when he name-dropped Taylor Swift, rapping, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, I made that bitch famous,” on the song “Famous.”

But as it turns out, Taylor wasn’t just cool with the line, it was also her idea.

At least that’s what Kanye said.

Swift’s spokesperson tells PEOPLE that he asked Taylor if she’d release the song on her Twitter: “She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that bitch famous.”

Kanye went on to defend another controversial line: “I bet me and Ray J would be friends if we didn’t like the same bitch / Yeah, he might have hit it first / Only problem is I’m rich.”

Well, it’s not a Kanye event unless he’s saying something off-the-wall.
